Atlético Ottawa Announces Two Signings from Atlético San Luis
Iker Moreno and Kevin Ortega join the club to strengthen the squad for the 2025 season.
After months of speculation, Atlético Ottawa has officially announced the signing of Iker Moreno on a one-year deal.
Moreno (21) joins on a one-year contract after initial reports suggested he would arrive on loan.
The versatile player has made 22 Liga MX appearances since debuting in 2022, playing for Club América and, most recently, Atlético San Luis.
“A player like Iker is a welcome addition to our sMoreno primarily plays as a right-back or wing-back.quad.” said Head Coach Diego Mejía, adding “He can play a number of positions and adds depth and versatility, not to mention an abundance of talent and experience.”
“I feel like this is a valuable step in my development,” said Moreno. “I’ve heard a lot of great things about the city and the fans. Having some familiar faces around will help me a lot. I can’t wait to get started.”
Moreno primarily plays as a right-back or wing-back.
A short while after announcing Moreno Atlético announced the signing of Kevin Ortega.
Ortega (23) arrives on a season-long loan from Atlético San Luis.
He has made four Liga MX appearances but has been a key player for San Luis’ U23 team, where he played 32 matches and helped the club win the Apertura Championship in December 2024.
“Kevin is another elite player joining us from our brother club in Mexico,” said Head Coach Diego Mejía, adding “He is only 23 but has a wealth of experience, high football IQ and is ready to help us achieve our bold and ambitious goals for 2025.”
“This is an exciting opportunity for me, coming to Canada and experiencing the sport in a whole new country,” said Ortega. “I can’t wait to play in front of the fans at TD Place.”
Ortega plays as a midfielder.
Ottawa has now signed four players from Mexico this season, all linked to affiliated club Atlético San Luis. Earlier this off season the club announced the signings of Juan 'Coque' Castro and David Rodríguez.
Last Friday Atlético announced the signing of Joaquim Coulanges.
Coulanges (18) was signed on a two-year contract with club options for 2027 and 2028.
He is a versatile player who can operate as a full-back, wing-back or winger.
“Joaquim’s ability to play out of tight spaces and his work rate to get up and down the line are extremely valuable qualities to us,” said JD Ulanowski, General Manager, Atlético Ottawa. “He is very good in the final third, with plenty of pace and ability in one-on-one situations.”
Coulanges spent last season with CS St-Hubert of Ligue1 Quebec.
He will contribute to Ottawa’s U21 minute tally for the 2025 season
“I'm happy to be here in Ottawa and ready to contribute,” said Coulanges. “I'm looking forward to learning from the coaching staff and my teammates, starting with training camp in Mexico and then in front of the amazing supporters here at TD Place starting April 5.”

Midfielders: Manny Aparicio, Aboubacar Sissoko, Noah Verhoeven, Gabriel Antinoro, Alberto Zapater, Juan 'Coque' Castro, Kevin Ortega
Forwards: Ballou Tabla, Kevin Santos, Sam Salter, David Rodríguez, Monty Patterson
The 2 CPL draft picks, Jason Hartill and Adam N'Goran, are with the team as well but have not yet been signed.
22/23 spots filled. 4/3 U21 Players. 7/7 International spots.
As of now Ottawa has maxed out their international roster spots and only has one spot left to fill in its senior roster.
