Atlético Ottawa was the second team this year to release their home/primary kit for the 2024 Canadian Premier League season, after Cavalry being the first.
It is safe to say it hit the mark and is a great kit. The kit has the recognizable red and white strips of their parent club Atlético Madrid. Their are what the club is calling “Rideau Blue” which is really just dark blue bands around the sleeves, and the collar. There are also two buttons on the kit, which isn’t something we see much of now of days. The back of the kit is all red.
The club was able to partner with front of jersey sponsor Maple Lodge Farms to help fight food insecurity within the community. For every jersey sold, Maple Lodge Farms will donate a case of their chicken products to the clubs community food centre partners. This is starting with the Caldwell Family Centre and will expand over the course of the season to others. One case of chicken products will mean enough food to provide dinner to 30 people, or six Ottawa families, every time a 2024 Primary Jersey is purchased.
“We are incredibly proud to unveil our 2024 Primary Jersey, not just as a symbol of our club’s identity on the field, but as a real measure of Atlético’s continued support in the community,” said Fernando López, CEO, Atlético Ottawa. “Through our partnership with Canadian Premier League sponsors, Maple Lodge Farms, and the Caldwell Family Centre, each jersey sold directly contributes to fighting hunger in Ottawa.”
This partnership builds on the one that Atlético Ottawa had last season with their third kit. The club had partnered with Shelter Movers Ottawa which helps families escape intimate partner violence by providing free moving and storage solutions. A percentage of each kit sold went towards the charity.
The inspiration for this kit most likely came from the Atlético Madrid home kits from the 2014-2015, and 2020-2021 seasons. As the Atlético Ottawa jersey seems to be a mix of them. It incorporates the blue on the sleeves and collar from the 2014-15 jersey with the dark blue and the two buttons on the 2020-21 jersey. It also obviously has the trade mark Atlético red and white strips that all Atlético kits have.

This is not the first time that Atlético Ottawa have gone down blue sleeves and collar route either with their very first kit, back in the 2020 bubble year having a blue collar and blue sleeves, although the blue was lighter. The 2020 kit also included buttons as well, but had much thicker red and white stripes.
