Atlético Ottawa Stays Unbeaten with Wild 3-1 Win Over Cavalry in Calgary
Own Goal, Red Card, and Late Drama Highlight an Action-Packed Second Half as Ottawa Takes All Three Points.
Atlético beat Cavalry 3-1 today in Calgary. In a rather exciting second half that had everything from 4 goals, an own goal, and a red card, Ottawa came out on top.
During the first half, it was mainly all Cavalry with Atlético having a few probing chances but nothing substantial. This changed in the second half with an own goal. Antinoro meant to cross the ball into the 18 yard box but the ball deflected off of a Cavalry player and into the back of their own net. This opened the gates for Ottawa, who were able to get two more goals in the 67th and 82nd minute. Cavalry was able to get one goal back in the dying moments of the match but it was only a consolation prize.
Lineup
Atlético has a few changes in their lineup for the away game against Cavalry.
Ingham remains in net for his fourth consecutive start of the season. The back-line is made up of Antinoro and Dos Santos as wing-backs, while Cloutier, Kozlovskiy, and Didić are in the middle. Aparicio and Castro will work to hold down the midfield for Ottawa. Rodriguez and Tabla are up front on the wings, while Salter is the lone man up front leading the attack.
Ottawa has made two changes to their lineup compared to last game with Abatneh out for Kozlovskiy and Moreno out for Dos Santos.
Game Notes
The game today is Paw Patrol themed which is a rather unique themed day event. Hopefully this results in lots of new families at the game and that they are able to convert some of them into fans. As a result of the theme day, Cavalry is wearing Paw Patrol themed warm up shirts.
Tabla got the first shot off for Ottawa in the 3rd minute. Dos Santos shot the ball but his shot was blocked and rebounded to Tabla who hit it on a half volley but the ball went wide of the net.
Ingham made his first save off a shot from a corner in the 5th minute.
Antinoro had a shot on net from just inside the 18 yard box in the 9th minute. The ball dipped and swerved in the air but Carducci was able to save it and put it out for a corner.
Didić had a goal saving slide in the 16th minute. Cavalry passed the ball across the goal but Didić was able to slide in to clear it before Musse was able to pass it into the back of the net.
Field got the first yellow card of the game in the 22nd minute.
Kozlovskiy was able to hold his own against Musse in the 24th minute. They were fighting for a ball on the goal line and Kozlovskiy was able to hold up Musse who eventfully fell down and put the ball out of play.
Didić had a shot from far outside the 18 yard box that missed but not by much. His shot had a good bit of curve on the ball and looked from the TV angle to be heading into the top corner in the 30th minute.
Ingham saved an almost for sure goal in the 37th minute. Ottawa made a bad pass back which resulted in a break away for Cavalry. Cavalry wasn’t able to control the ball in time so Ingham was able to get out of the net in time and clear the ball.
Ingham with a big save in the 45th minute. Musse had the shot right but Ingham was able to make himself big and get a hand/arm on the ball to put it out of play.
Half time the game is 0-0.
Ingham makes yet another big save in the 47th minute. Camargo almost slots the ball into the back of the net but Ingham was able to get his legs out to deny him a goal.
Ottawa may have gotten lucky to avoid a penalty in the 52nd minute with what looked like a hand ball inside their penalty box.
Antinoro makes it 1-0 for Ottawa in the 59th minute. Antinoro looked like he wanted to cross the ball into the 18 yard box but it hit a Cavalry’s players back on the way in which deflected the ball into the net. This has been deemed an own goal by the CPL.
Kozlovskiy got a yellow card in the 63rd minute for a sliding tackle on Musse.
Kamdem got a straight red card in the 64th minute as a result of a scuffle in the box. Kamdem slapped Kozlovskiy hard in the box while both teams were setting up for a freekick.
Ottawa makes it 2-0 with a goal from Tabla. Rodriguez passes the ball to Tabla in the 18 yard box who makes no mistake and passes it into the back of the net in the 67th minute.
Kozlovskiy is subbed out for Walker in the 68th minute.
Henry got a yellow card for diving in the 69th minute.
Salter, Tabla, and Antinoro come off for Coulanges, Zapater, and Patterson in the 77th minute.
Castro got a yellow card in the 80th minute.
Coulanges makes it 3-0 for Ottawa in the 81st minute. After dribbling the ball into Cavarly’s 18 yard box, Coulanges collides with two Cavalry players who weren’t able to clear their lines in time, which resulted in Coulanges being able to shoot the ball into to the back of the net. This is Coulanges’ first professional goal.
Ortega comes on for Rodriguez in the 83rd minute.
Ottawa loses out on their first clean sheet of the year as Cavalry makes it 3-1 in the 87th minute. Elva was able to capitalize on a bad pass and shoots the ball through Ingham’s legs into the back of the net.
Lang is given a yellow card in the 89th minute for holding Patterson.
Final 3-1 Ottawa. Ottawa remains undefeated this season and Cavalry still hasn’t won a game in April.
