Atlético Parts Ways with Sacko and Piccioli
Sacko and Atlético have mutually agreed to part ways. Piccioli, who was a U-Sports pick, will go down to Ottawa's affiliated Ligue1 Quebec team
Atlético Ottawa has opened up two new roster spots on their team with the departure of Sacko and Piccioli.
Sacko, who Atlético signed from Le Havre B in France at the start of the 2023 season, has featured 12 times for Ottawa over all competitions. During the 2023 season, Sacko made 10 appearances for the club over all competitions and received 2 yellow cards. However, about halfway into the 2023 season, he got an injury that kept him out for the rest of the season. Sacko recovered for the 2024 season but never fell back into favour with the coach.
When Sacko signed in 2023, former Atlético Ottawa CEO Fernando Lopez had said “We’re thrilled to welcome Sacko to the Atlético Ottawa family, he’s an exciting addition to our team and brings with him a wealth of experience from one of the most prestigious academies in France. We look forward to seeing him grow and develop with us.”
Sacko and Atlético Ottawa have agreed to mutually part ways. He was originally signed on a two year deal which ran until the end of this season. This allows Sacko to find another team and Ottawa to open up a roster spot and an international player spot.
Coach Gonzalez previous stated that the team was looking to move Sacko on, and now it has been confirmed.
Luca Piccioli has now left Atlético Ottawa and has joined Ligue1 Quebec affiliated team OSU Atlético. Ligue1 Québec doesn’t give its players the opportunity to be loaned down from the CPL, as is done across other League1 Canada competitions. This means that Piccioli’s U-Sports contract is now up and terminated, but he remains inside the Atlético ecosystem and will still be able to train with the first team.
Piccioli was signed to a U-Sports contract at the beginning of the 2024 season. He never made any appearances for the team or made the bench.
