Ottawa's First 0-0 Draw is the Result of Their First Trip Down to York This Season.
The Extreme Heat Was the Real Winner in Today's Game as Neither Team Could Find the Back of the Net.
The extreme heat was the real winner of today’s game, as neither team was able to find the back of the net. Although not for a lack of trying. York was in control for the first half, but Ottawa took control in the second half. Ottawa ended up having more shots at goal but only 3 of which were on target. This was Ottawa’s first trip down to York Lions Stadium this season, which historically they haven’t had the best results from, so Ottawa will walk away from this game happy with one point given the conditions.
Lineup
Ottawa starts the game with their normal starting lineup. Ingham starts in goal with Kozlovskiy, Abatneh, and Cloutier in front of him in defense. Antinoro and Dos Santos are the two wing-backs. In the middle, Castro returns alongside Aparicio after serving a yellow card accumulation suspension. Out on the wings is Rodriguez and Tabla, with Salter the lone man up front.
On the bench is Coulanges, Duhaney-Walker, Ortega, Sissoko, Zapater, Patterson, and Crampton, who is the backup keeper.
Game Notes
It was a hot day in York at kickoff. With the humidex, it felt like 44 degrees.
Kozlovskiy is given the first yellow card of the game in the 10th minute.
Ingham makes the save from a weird freekick routine in the 11th minute. York faked kicked the free kick twice before finally kicking it on the third attempt. The ball made it through the group of players, missed a York player’s head (if he had touched it it looked as if he would have been offside) and forced Ingham to dive to make the save.
The teams stop for a water break at the 32nd minute.
Ingham is fouled as he went to try to catch a high ball in the 34th minute.
Kozlovskiy made a good foul in the 38th minute which more or less saved a goal. If he had gotten it wrong, he would have been sent off for two yellows and given up a penalty, but he timed it perfectly and got the ball.
Kozlovskiy took a shot from outside the 18 yard box in the 43rd minute but the ball went wide.
Half time.
Duhaney-Walker was subbed on at the start of the second half for Kozlovskiy.
Tabla almost got himself on a break away after a great ball up by Abatneh but the ball got caught in his feet and York’s keeper was able to make the save in the 47th minute.
Duhaney-Walker had a very strong header off of a corner kick, but the header was right at the goalkeeper, which resulted in an easy save in the 49th minute.
Salter was denied on a break away in the 54th minute by York’s keeper who made a big save.
Salter then made a great shot that had York’s keeper diving to make the save in the 55th minute.
Cloutier made a big sliding tackle in the 62nd minute. York was on a breakaway, but Cloutier was able to slide and block the shot just as the York player was about to shoot.
Aparicio took a rocket of a shot from outside the 18 yard box, but a York player took a touch which sent it over the crossbar for a corner in the 72nd minute.
Ottawa subs Tabla off for Sissoko in the 73rd minute.
The second water break occurs at the 76th minute.
Aparicio and Salter almost linked up to get a goal in the 84th minute. Aparicio passed the ball into York’s penalty box but York’s goalie was able to dive and make the save before Salter could tap the ball into the net.
Coulanges and Patterson were subbed on for Castro and Dos Santos in the 85th minute.
Zapater was subbed on for Rodriguez in the 90+2 minute.
In the final minute of the match, Ottawa got a corner kick but nothing came from it and it was blown down as the ball went out of play during the initial corner kick.
The game ends 0-0.
